Negative Campaign Advertisement from the 1940 Campaign
In the Peabody Mayoral Election of 1940, John E. Murphy ran against one-term incumbent Joseph B. O’Keefe.
The results were razor thin.
Mayor O’Keefe only won by 1 vote in the original election. It was too close to call and a formal re-count took place.
In the end, Mayor O’Keefe took the lead by 8 votes and was declared the winner.
Remember on Election Day every vote counts!
